Running errands. Walking the dog. Hanging out. Mowing the lawn. There are lots of ways to use running shoes once they have been retired as trainers.
But did you ever think about this one: fighting poverty.
That’s the thinking behind Soles4Souls, a not-for-profit global social enterprise committed to fighting
poverty through the collection and distribution of shoes and clothing. Since 2006, Soles4Souls has
distributed 26 million pairs of shoes in 127 countries including all fifty U.S. states.
These shoes give the extremely impoverished the ability to get to work, avoid
disease, and go to school. As an added bonus, the materials do not end up in a
landfill, and thus protect the environment.
